Guild Wars Ranger
The Sharpshooter

Guild wars ranger ( female) one of the most versitile characters in this online game

The guild wars ranger is a core profession in the guild wars online game, meaning it can be selected in any of the three games that have the guild wars name: Guild Wars Prophecies, Guild Wars Factions, or Guild Wars Nightfall.

The Ranger

The Ranger is a Versatile character in the Guild Wars game. Most gamers will like this character, because they are fun to play.

The main types of guild wars Rangers you will meet are:

Interrupter - This build will stop actions in their tracks.

Aoe Build - Hitting multiple enemies at once is no problem for this build.

Trapper - This build is a set up and pull. While it does a lot of damage it can be easily disrupted if you are attacked before you get set up.

The Degen Master This ranger drains your health by using as many skills that continuously do damage to you like burning and poison.

Choosing a secondary for your guild wars ranger.

When choosing a secondary profession for your guild wars ranger, first you should decide on what your main goal is going to be. Once you have decided look at the skills that the other professions have, you can even test some of them out in the game through missions before deciding, then decide if those skills will help you the way you want them too. Example: you decide to go interrupt you may want to take the mesmer as your second, the reason for this choice is mesmers have many interrupt skills themselves.

Ranger as a secondary class for other primary professions.

The Pro's The guild wars ranger makes a great secondary profession for any other profession in the game. It allows you some nice ranged damage and gives plenty of versatility.

The Con'sThe bad thing about taking a ranger as a secondary is many of the skills have a cost of 10 or more energy.

Basic Ranger Info

Armor: Ranger have medium armor, so they will take less damage in a fight. There are 31 sets of armor, each with its own unique look. You can mix and match the armor set. I have a friend that does this, and when she mixes the armor she creates her own unique look. There are five pieces to each set.

Weapons: In Guild Wars you can use any weapon in the game. Rangers use a bow, this weapon is used to attack from far away. The damage bow does medium to high damage. You can specialize in this weapon to increase it's damage.

Magic: All characters have the ability to use magic, so every character has a magic or power pool. Rangers have a medium amount of power and a high power regen.

The Attributes of a Guild Wars Ranger

Attributes are the groupings that skills fall under.

Expertise - This line has bow skills, many defensive skills, and a few touch skills. This attribute is the primary line for a ranger, which means that only a ranger primary can make points in this attribute line. For every point you put in this attribute the skills in it get stronger, and your energy skills will cost less.

Marksmanship - This skill line is mostly bow attacks. For every point you put in this attribute the skills in it get stronger.

Wilderness Survival - Traps that you preset for the foes you are about to fight, preparations this skill enhances your attacks or reduces the cost to use them. There are rituals where you call on a spirit to enhance or change the surroundings to help give you an advantage . For every point you put in this attribute the skills in it get stronger.

Beast Mastery - Do you hate fighting alone? Well rangers never have to, they can charm a pet to help them fight. The skills along with charm animal in this line are mostly to help your pet do more damage. For every point you put in this attribute the skills in it get stronger.

Ranger basic build ideas

When you go to create a Guild Wars Ranger build you will discover you can only take 8 skills with you. So making a build that allows you to continue to cast your skills is very important.

The Tips

  • First and most important is to choose the skills that go with your play style.
  • Put several points into Expertise to reduce the power usage on skills
  • Use mostly low energy cost skills.
  • Don’t be afraid to try different skills and skill combinations.
  • Pick a secondary profession that fits with your play style and build.
  • When making your armor, each piece can have one rune and one insignia. Read each carefully because placement has an effect on some of the insignias.

  • When you PvP use your range to your advantage. You will be able to spot the person who is most likely to fall next and help defeat them so they can't help in the fight.
  • If you use Ritual Skills be careful they effect everything in the area as well as you and your party. Choose carefully!

Playing a ranger is fun. I have a ranger and several of my guild mates play a ranger almost exclusively. The ranger is the most Versatile character in Guild Wars. This is a great character to start out with, if your new to GW.
