Few basics about Gate of Desolation...

When I speak of bonus I am talking about masters bonus which is harder of the two to get. Bonus's are Masters (hardest), Expert (moderate).

Suggested Hero's and Henchmen to Bring: this will be what I have found most effective, and will take it as if you have all the hero's.

General Tips

Set all hero's to the shield (defense) that way they do not attack unless they are attacked or you attack. I like to set my healing hero's to passive so they don't attack just heal.

Gate of Desolation Walk Through

Another wave after wave mission, (don't know about you but kinda tired of that) you will be fighting quite a few undead mobs here so smite skills are actually handy. there will be times when the boss wurm will attack so take care of it fast.

Also Palawa Joko is here to guide you to your destination but skip him becuase he wont help you get the bonus.

At the start of the mission flag your hero's where Palawa Joko Stops the first time. This will be your fighting spot and best area to pull from as well. This also insures that any hero / henchmen, or player gets no were close to the deadly sands that will instantly defeat you. The wave s of mobs start pull each wave to you once you have defeated the one you are on after a few waves the queen wurm will attack.

She will retreat after you have done enough damage to her the waves start again repeat the same process. 2 mobs that need to be top priority in this mission (especially in Hard mode) are the Acolytes and Cavaliers. These mobs can resurrect the fallen mobs basically making the fights longer and harder especially if they bring back a boss. The boss Chakeh the Lonely is a cavalier so he too can bring back fallen mobs.

After you have beaten this section and tamed the queen, defeat what ever mobs are left and head to the wurm spoor. Once all hero/ henchmen are close click on the spoor to be swallowed by the wums (ewww, the stench is never gonna get out of the armor you know). You now can travel across the deadly sands.

there are several groups of Margonites and Elemental mobs out here Avoiding fights as much as possible is advisable. There how ever are a few fights that you will just have to fight. Try avoiding fights with Elemental mobs mainly, becuase the wurms are weak to there type of damage.

As you travel in the wurm you have a large amount of health, and everyone can Rez. and there is no DP (Death Penalty) in a wurm, however once you leave the wurm you will have the DP. There are a couple spots where you will be leaving the Wurm becuase of rocky terrain which the wurms can not travel through.

If you followed Palawa Joko he leads you to Remains of Sahlahja, where you will have completed the mission but with out the bonus.

Getting The Gate of Desolation Bonus

The bonus is pretty easy. There are 3 Junundu Young on this mission (shown on map) Guarded by a group of mobs all the mobs in the group must be defeated before the Junundu Young will start following you. You need to be careful not to accidentally hit them so it is best to pull the mobs away from them. Once you see Saved message no longer worry about that one.

Playing in Hard Mode

Same strategy, just a bit harder (mainly the Elemental mobs)

Pulling and flagging of your hero's and henchmen is key.

Take your time don't rush.

Avoiding Elemental mobs will help a lot.

The Hero Builds

Tweek the builds to what skills you have but try to keep the concept of the build intact.

Zhed Shadowhoof

Area of Effect Elementalist Build

Breath of Fire, Fire Storm, Fireball, Rodgort's Invocation, Meteor Shower, Master of Magic, Fire Attunement, Resurrection Chant

Concept This is a Aoe Fire build, Great for missions with loads of mobs and most these spells cast through walls. ! caution on this build mobs do run around more to get out of some of the spells so if you tend to be a chaser don't use it, you may aggro more mobs.


Smite Monk Build

Signet of Judgment, Castigation Signet, Smite Condition, Smite Hex, Patient Spirit, Signet of Rejuvenation, Orison of Healing, Resurrection Chant.

Concept Even though this character is smite you want them to heal as well that is why I used the smite conditions does double duty. Make sure this monk is on defensive to use the smite skills.


Necro Minnion Master Build

Animate Shambling Horror, Animate Bone Horror, Animate Flesh Golem, Death Nova, Patient Spirit,Signet of Rejuvenation, Feast for the Dead, Resurrection Chant

Concept This can be any Minion Master Build this is just one of several I use.
